Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr. and the dfree® Financial Freedom Movement Take its Billion Dollar Challenge to Indianapolis for its 7th Annual National Conference, September 26-29, 2019
Conference to Offer Real Strategy and Tools for African Americans to Overcome Wealth Gap
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – April 23, 2019 – Today Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr. announced that the dfree® Financial Freedom Movement will host its 7th annual national conference in Indianapolis, September 26-29, 2019. The 3-day powered packed event will be co-hosted by two prominent Indianapolis pastors – Rev. Darryl Webster of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church and Rev. Jeffrey Johnson of Eastern Star Baptist Church. A cross-section of attendees will celebrate the economic progress being made by African Americans as evidenced by the fast-growing movement to pay off one billion dollars of consumer debt. Anyone with a desire to improve their financial lives will achieve heightened levels of personal, spiritual and financial wellness through the effective tools, strategies and concepts of the dfree® program.
“Financial slavery is the last ladder we as African Americans have to climb,” said Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr., founder and CEO of the dfree® Financial Freedom Movement. “And, as 2019 is the 400th anniversary of when slavery began in this country, it is the perfect time for dfree® to take it to the next level to ultimately end financial bondage for us as a people. Deciding to bring our national conference to Indianapolis was obvious as we have more than two dozen churches and community organizations in the dfree® movement working to free their members from the burdens of debt. Indianapolis is leading the nation in the Billion Dollar Challenge for African American debt reduction.”
Prudential is a longtime supporter of dfree® and will be the title sponsor of this event.
dfree®, a values-based wealth-building system, offers solutions to overcoming debt and building wealth, such as its Billion Dollar Challenge (BDC), the leading campaign initiative under the dfree® umbrella. BDC is a free, online interactive tool designed to help lead African Americans in collectively paying down one billion dollars of consumer debt. The platform allows users to not just join the movement but to be active in the communal battle of obtaining financial freedom while reducing debt and building wealth. BDC integrates technology, social interaction and celebration to recruit, instruct and motivate African Americans to start investing in themselves by eliminating personal debt.
To date, through the dfree® Billion Dollar Challenge, users have paid down nearly $19 million in debt. dfree® has globally touched close to 4,000 churches and organizations, 150,000 individuals and more than 179 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. chapters nationwide.
“dfree® has been a model that has revolutionized both our church and family lives, and now it’s moving into our communities,” said Pastor Webster, who’s been integral in helping more than 15 churches in the Indianapolis region launch the dfree® program. “We want to raise awareness that we are serious about dfree®. We’re not just doing this as an event.”
The focal point of this year’s conference is entrepreneurship and giving African Americans the strategies and tools to build wealth and acquire millionaire mindsets. Hosting the dfree® conference in Indianapolis is pivotal as it is home to the businesses of Madam C.J. Walker, one of the first African American millionaires.
“Debt elimination is universally understood as the prerequisite for achieving financial freedom and creating wealth. Every curriculum, program and organization that supports upward economic mobility believes and teaches that using credit as a lifestyle of overspending rather than using credit as a strategy to build wealth is a major barrier to financial well-being,” said Soaries, former New Jersey Secretary of State. “That is why the dfree® message begins with debt reduction, debt elimination and debt free living. The road to financial freedom begins by saying yes to no debt.”
This year’s dfree® national conference will emphasize financial empowerment through expert advice, workshops and panel discussions on topics including: Rebuilding Black Wall Street, Manifesting a Millionaire Mindset, Perfect Credit and more. The conference will also feature entertainment including a Friday evening Gospel concert and Saturday evening comedy show.
Early registration for the 7th annual dfree® National Conference begins on May 1, 2019. Visit mydfree.org for more information.
About dfree® Financial Freedom Movement:
As the only faith-based, wealth-building system specifically designed with the black community in mind, dfree® delivers access to financial freedom. dfree® uses a variety of tools to educate, motivate and support people who make the choice to achieve and sustain financial freedom. dfree® began as a faith-based initiative to help stem an epidemic of overspending, particularly in the African-American community. dfree® has grown into a movement that gives participants the: ability to handle their own financial responsibilities; willingness to help others do the same; and, capacity to leave assets for future generations.
In the tradition of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., dfree® also is a movement to help achieve economic justice in America. Rev. Dr. King once said, “We must never let it be said that we spend more for the evanescent and ephemeral than for the eternal values of freedom and justice.” dfree® emphasizes controlling money matters so that individuals have the freedom to focus on more purposeful pursuits.
