Detroit, Michigan – Calling financial freedom a critical component on an overall quest to find purpose, Pastor Sterling H. Brewer recently talked about why he’s so excited to host hundreds of church leaders and others March 31 at King David Missionary Baptist Church for the dfree® Financial Freedom Movement Worship Celebration (7 to 9 PM). The conference continues April 1 with dfree® speakers, launch training, workshops, 1-on-1 financial consultation opportunities and more — from 9 AM to 2 PM at University of Detroit, Mercy.
“The dfree® financial freedom movement, developed by Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr., is cutting edge because it helps God’s people become free from the bondage of debt, “ said Brewer, King David Missionary’s senior pastor since 1996. “I believe that God intended for His people to be empowered and free of financial struggles and in control of the resources with which He has entrusted us. Financial principles, learned through dfree® financial training and working simultaneously with the spirit of God, will give you the incredible ability to fulfill the purpose for which you were created.”
The dfree® financial freedom movement started more than a decade ago as a transformational, lifestyle movement that promotes financial freedom through values-based principles and practical approaches to financial management. dfree® addresses the cultural, psychological and spiritual influences on financial wellness. In the tradition of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., dfree® also is a movement to help achieve economic justice in America.
“In the age we live in, 50 percent of the global wealth is controlled by 1 percent of the wealthiest people. This is one of the many reasons why it is important that we live our lives debt free,” Brewer said. “Dfree® training is a global model that gives us useful data and experiences of how to obtain a life that is debt free. I believe God intended for Christians to live free from the bondage of credit cards, high interest rates and bad purchasing decisions.”
The two-day conference is also hosted by The Global Summit, Detroit Partnership, Greater Christ Baptist Church Credit Union and Powered by Prudential. The Global Summit Founder Matthew Parker has known Dr. Soaries since 1988.
“It has been my privilege to watch Dr. Soaries implement the dfree financial principles in his home, his church and his denomination. I would encourage anyone to attend the dfree® worship celebration and mini-conference scheduled for March 31-April 1,” Parker said. “ I believe that this will enlighten attendees on practical how-tos for overcoming their debt and developing sound financial practices for the future.”
In a country where society promotes consumerism, materialism and a debt culture, Soaries has run into people who have all but resigned themselves to debt, which he likens to slavery. He offers a message of hope through practical strategies.
“It’s never too late to start saving for retirement. It’s never too late to start getting your credit right. It’s never too late to start learning about investments,” Soaries said. “It’s never too late to start an emergency fund. It’s never too late because ‘too late’ for Jesus is right on time.”
Featured presentations on April 1 include Living in Your Purpose to Help Achieve Financial Prosperity by Centric Senior Vice President Michele Thornton and Making Money in the New Economy by Tech Guru Navarrow Wright. Registration for the conference is available via http://bit.ly/2naPn0R . The Friday event is free at King David Missionary, 18001 Sunset Street, Detroit, Michigan 48234.
